|  | I like this idea. I think it would be especially interesting to allow students to reference different types of media/text as they explore whatever issue they choose. They would then be able to see how culture interacts in different/similar ways regardless of the particular form that rhetoric takes.

|  | I sort of gave them an option like this for their Analyzing Ads project. I told them that they could take two banned commercials and explore the similar/contrasting reasons for their censoring - playing particular attention to the cultural taboos or norms that the ads might violate to become "banned." This way, they can do some research either A. to find out the reason the FCC (or networks or advocacy groups - whoever) gave for banning the ads or B. to consider the values of the culture in which the commercials were banned.
